Mental Health: The struggle is real…

"Toast to the ones here today. Toast to the ones that we lost on the way.'
Cause the drinks bring back all the memories. And the memories bring back, memories bring back you."
-Maroon 5, Memories-

I want to end the week by sharing with you a bit of last week. Sunday at church began just like every Sunday. My pastor asked the congregation how we've seen God through the past week. At that moment, I didn't have the emotions to articulate, so I didn't speak up. Though very personal, I think it's important to share. I had an unexpected death in my family last week, my dear sister, and learned that especially during the bad and terrible moments, God is there.

I saw God through the 800+ people who came to say goodbye. I saw how much she was loved and the joy she has given to so many in her short time. The flowers, the cards, the meals; nothing short of amazing. Phone calls, visits from friends, help with the kids and more. This tragedy gave me perspective and promise that our family will now be more present in each other's lives.

And I saw God at Sweetums. With any "job" it's difficult to take off work. As the owner, I know that a day off is a day I will soon have to make up. A busy month of shows, sickness, extra orders and more has left me overwhelmed to say the least. A few days off last week was exceptionally difficult for me professionally... My team not only took over my daily tasks, but they ordered birthday cakes for my kids, took balloons to them for school, did some of my grocery shopping, sent food to the funeral and more. Words cannot express the ways I saw God this past week, even in the darkest of times.

I hope you all had a great week, and in whatever way you worship, please look for the good even in the bad. Life is short, don't waste one second of it. Lots of love to all of you     -Danette

Mental health is real, and the struggle endured by those who suffer from it {and those close to the sufferers} is indescribable. Mental Health Month -October- seeks to raise awareness of these conditions and what you can do to help those who suffer from them. Mental Health is a silent enemy that many we work with, live with, and walk beside, suffer from so deeply. To honor those who suffer, or have suffered, we wanted to share some history and information to do our part and raise awareness.
